The yellow branch is for children of 8 – 12 years. The male section of the yellow branch is called Wolfcubs and the female section is called Wolvets.

The cub scouting method is based on the picturesque environment of the Jungle Book, which offers a coherent set of games and activities through which the cubs can develop and improve themselves within a “Happy Family”.

The Pedagogy

Pack/Clearing

The children evolve in a non-mixed group called a Pack (boys)/Clearing (girls). Each Pack and Clearing is supervised by chiefs who help to form a united and joyful group: the Happy Family.

Law, Motto, Maxims

For the smooth functioning of the Pack/Clearing and to keep the attention of the children during the activities, everyone follows the same rules: The Pack law, Maxims, Master word and the Moto- “Do our best”.

The Jungle

The children in the Pack/Clearing learn various skills and techniques through games and by using their imagination. They are therefore immersed in an imaginary setting: The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.

The activities

At each activity, the leaders (Chiefs) gather the children in a gathering called Council Rock. At the Council Rock the chief- Akela explains a part of the story from The Jungle Book and helps the cubs to make a concrete resolution which is implemented at a particular moment during the activity.

The Council Rock is a tool for the unit to progress. Its aim is the formation of character, and the awakening of goodness (by recalling the law).

The activities are conducted in 2 main stages

Progression

The Promise

When a child enters the Pack/Clearing they wear the full uniform and are recognised as a Tenderpaw. The child then begins to work towards making his/her promise by completing the tests in the Mowgli booklet.

First & Second Star

After making the promise, the child continues to progress by learning various skills, validated by the chiefs and receives the first or second star. This stage teaches him/her a sense of responsibility.

The Badges

The badges are an additional way of continuing the progression of the child in specific skills. There are 5 trails or categories: White- Religious, Red- Health, Green-Sports, Blue- Intellectual and Yellow- Manual skill.

Uniform

The Wolfcubs and the Wolvets wear the same uniform :

  • Beret with the promise wolf and stars as the cub progresses.
  • Sky blue short sleeve shirt.
  • Navy blue Bermuda shorts for boys and navy culottes for girls.
  • Navy blue jumper.
  • Navy blue or white socks (on Sundays).
  • The neckerchief (called a coat) in the colors of the pack or the clearing. It symbolizes belonging to a group and will be awarded after two to three activities. It is tied with two knots.
  • The belt with the FSE buckle.
